in the story of Marpa and Milarepa, Marpa subjected Milarepa to all the demands and hardships that he did *before* giving him Vajrayana empowerments and teachings. After Marpa finally started to give Mila those teachings, then he showed much more kindness. It seems to me that until that point there was, at least formally, no samaya and Milarepa could have walked away from the situation – and did on at least one occasion.

As for your questions, you have asked quite a lot, so it would take a long time to go over them and try to answer. I could try to answer some of them, if you can answer my question: what do you think HHDL is really saying? Is he telling the truth, or am I misunderstanding him? If it’s the latter, then can you explain what you think he is really saying?
